The Insight That Got Away
How do you sense what’s next for your company and/or your team?
Do you have a way of tracking the insights that are personal to you, as a leader, and not just insights that come from the flywheel?
In a recent introductory course to The HuPerson’s DesignOS, we had an inspired conversation about tracking insights for the design of next.
Leaders often consume large amounts of data and information about their company and the context their company lives in. In addition to this data, leaders can be present to a personal guidance system that is more about how they will lead than what is happening in the company.
There’s a way of tracking personal insights that come in many ways, some of which might be non-linearly contexted streams of information. Systems can be created to notice, over time, consistency of insights.
When insights come in, we might think they are just for now, for a moment. We might then let them go because they don’t fit into the flow we are entering. By tracking these insights over time, we might begin to see a pattern that points us in a direction our rational might wouldn’t have gotten to. This pattern may be pointing to what’s next for your company, showing up in a non-traditional way.
As we are in a time of unprecedented change and uncertainty as a day-by-day occurrence, having a way to track ‘incoming’ insights offers a way to be in relationship with change that gives leaders a kind of knowing without needing certainty in the external world.
As leaders, it can be helpful to look beyond who we have been and be present to who we are invited to become to meet the world and the health of our company now. Our personal insights can act as a rudder over time through both tracking them and seeing the pattern of insight as it begins to unfold. When knowing comes from this place, we are more likely to experience a grounded sense of what’s next for the company through our particular leadership lens.
Being able to see the patterns takes a kind of seeing, and presence. The HuPerson Operating system is designed to support a new kind of knowing, for leaders interested in a greater span and depth of presence to decision-making at all levels of the company.
Do you have a way of tracking these insights? And what would it look like to design that for yourself?
