The Multiple Strata of Awareness
When talking about awareness, there are many layers, more than we might be present to at first. Why does this matter? Because in a time when we are asked to be aware of multiple, simultaneous unprecedented changes on the planet, which seems to be a new normal, it might be helpful to know what form of awareness we are becoming skillful with. There is a hefty payoff with a little practice of multi-layered awareness.
To be aware might be a first level. To be aware of our surroundings, of others, of what is transpiring on the planet. We are in a time when we can’t afford to not be aware, especially as leaders, of much more than perhaps we have been asked to be aware of. It’s no longer enough to be aware of just one’s company, supply chain and regions of influence. We need to know how currents move in multiple domains to stay informed and even afloat. Awareness helps us have a level of clarity and conscience about our decisions and their potential impact. This form of awareness is situated in our mind.
A nuanced form of being aware of our surroundings can be cultivated through mindfulness. We can train our minds to be present and aware in the moment to what is transpiring. We are not in the past or in the future, we are here now, in this moment, and our mental faculties can be accessed expansively beyond any kind of fight or flight response; we can train ourselves to not be taken out by stressful situations. More vitality and presence become available when we train our minds to be mindful.
There is still another place called Awareness. This is not the same thing as being aware of something. It is a place beyond the mind that either witnesses the mind, or, when we engage it, can direct the mind. When we are on autopilot or at the effect of monkey mind, we’ve abdicated awareness in that moment.
It gets a little interesting here. We can have some distance from our minds, and from a place of witnessing, we also become aware that there is a part of us that is not the mind, and may direct the mind. We call this ‘awake aware.’ A tremendous capacity occurs at this place, that, until recently hasn’t been talked about much.
One can become skillful with directing the awareness that directs the mind. Then mind is in service to awareness. Mind then can be directed to attend to, for example, why you are here, what you are called to do and who you are called to become. Then the things your mind attends to are the things that are relevant to your why, instead of the shiny objects your mind might be captured by, and the trillions of places of distraction.
Note, there is a difference between mindfulness, which is training the mind to be fully present, and awake awareness, which has told your mind to be mindful in the moment. Awake awareness can then direct the mind to hold presence to what is most relevant to you, for example, your Destiny. From there, you can design the map of what you give your attention and life force to. This is how we work with Destiny Design.
Why all of this distinction? Because when we come from awake awareness, we are more likely to be present to incoming possibilities from the future which may have nothing to do with the past. Because awareness directs the mind, not coming from the mind, we aren’t basing our point of view on past patterns. From there, dropped in, we can sense an intelligence we haven’t fully tapped into. We co-sense a future that wants to happen. This is where we begin to work with the HuPerson Operating System.
We shift from operating from a subconscious mind to operating with more consciousness. We might be wondering how advances in AI come into this conversation. AI, from this perspective, engages our minds, and is based largely on the programming of our minds and its own generative programming. Our latent capacity to become aware of the awareness which might more optimally direct the mind towards an advantageous place. We can sense incoming beyond what technologies of the mind can capture. Developing the capacity for awake awareness may be the call of our times.
Next step? Consider what it might mean to lead from dropped in awake awareness, designed according to your Destiny.
